Good Life!

The sexy husband and I are headed on our first vacation of our marriage. It's much needed--the week we got engaged was a lovely time, just the two of us, exploring North Carolina (where I lived at the time), from Asheville and Charlotte to the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast. Due to a job interview, our honeymoon was... well, it sort of wasn't. I had a job interview less than 48 hours after we said, "I do," and we always meant to have the rest of it but just never did.

I sure love him!
Since then we've had a few quick trips to see family in north central Washington State and Missoula, where our parents live, and two short retreat-type trips with friends from church. Those were lovely, don't get me wrong, but for the entirety of our three year marriage it's been filled with work and school and serving and the occasional one or two day break on long weekends. I'm not whining--we have great friends, a great home, and overall I feel very blessed in life. But sometimes you need to just get away, unplug (as in, no internet and constant iPhone checking!), and connect with God, one another, and nature.

So, we have the great privilege to go to a secluded cabin in a rural area and just enjoy one another! We're pretty excited. Other than a big chunk of one day to do some short and long term life and financial planning, we have left it unstructured to just do as we feel led. That's kind of crazy town for us, and we're already wondering what we'll do with ourselves, but I'm pumped. I'm packing some of our favorite board games and books and looking forward to wondering how to fill a day with my husband and my God and not a whole lot else :)

Also, if you remember this post, and if you have known me long at all, then you know that October is my all-time, most beloved, absolute favorite month of the year. I love everything about it. Everything! Well, I don't love Halloween, but even that can be redeemed :)  Tomorrow is October and I'm thrilled. And even though it's ushering in the last year of my 20s, I'm ecstatic about my birthday (the 16th, for the record--October 16th, the greatest day of all time!). Jason has made some major and super secret plans and he's almost giddy about them, which means I'm bursting at the seams! I can't wait! I love my birthday! And MiniMoose is 18 weeks today, which means that we get to find out the gender, Lord willing, very soon.

Life is just grand and great and wonderful and I'm thrilled! Have a lovely, lovely weekend and see you next week!

  1. I'm glad you guys are getting some time away!

On a random aside: We are going to NC in November. Any good tips on where to go? We're visiting family near Raleigh. I've never been there.

  2. Thanks, Jamie!

If you can somehow swing it, the coast is AMAZING. It's so beautiful. Really, anywhere you pick would be great. We liked Kill Devil Hills, but you can also go to Kitty Hawk where the Wright Bros flew the first airplane. It's a good three hours from Raleigh, but the coast is incredible.

This likely wouldn't appeal to you quite as much, but I thought it was cool to see the UNC campus in Chapel Hill, because I'd grown up loving Michael Jordan and it was just so cool to see what the town and campus are like. I hope you have an amazing time!
